The Ten Day Challenge – Day Three

It’s day three, and we’re talking about fears. I suppose we all have little things that give us the heebie-jeebies, and of course there are the big fears too, the ones that keep us awake at night. Continue reading

The Ten Day Challenge – Day Two

Today’s instalment of the ten day challenge asks for nine loves. I figured it stands to reason that I love my family (both blood and urban)…for goodness sake, my sister has her very own post here, so I decided to focus on other, less obvious loves. Continue reading

The Ten Day Challenge – Day One

Admittedly, I’m always pretty bad about updating this site – I don’t like to just post for the sake of it, I’d rather have something to say – but lately I’ve been worse than usual! There’s just been so much on the go! So, in the spirit of forcing myself to post every day, I thought I’d join my lovely friend Chereen from For the Beauty of It in a ten day challenge. Also not the kind of thing I usually do, but hey. Continue reading

Choosing Childlessness

I’d like to think that as society, we have reached a place where a woman’s value is not dictated by the number of children she bears. But sadly, I think I am very much mistaken in that idealistic viewpoint. Continue reading

Book Club: When God was a Rabbit – Sarah Winman

I love it when people who I know are avid readers suggest books to me, and this one came highly recommended by a very good friend of mine late last year. It took me a while to buy a copy of When God was a Rabbit but it is by far one of the loveliest books I’ve had suggested to me in a while…thanks Jo! Continue reading

Clap Your Hands and Say WTF

It seems more and more independent promoters are bringing out indie acts – definitely something to get excited about! When Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s visit to South Africa was announced a mere few weeks before the dates of the gigs in JHB and Cape Town, I was torn to say the least because I already had plans to see some of my favourite local bands that night. I’m really glad I ultimately chose to watch CYHSY but the whole event was just a bit strange. Continue reading

A Year of Lessons

It seems hard to believe but it’s been a whole year since I moved to Johannesburg. And boy what a year it’s been. Time has certainly flown by at an incredible pace, but I can’t truthfully say it’s always been fun…it’s been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster really. But more than that, it’s been a year of valuable lessons for me. Continue reading

Book Club: Room – Emma O’Donoghue

The basic premise of Room is centred around a mother and son who are held captive in a single room. Of course, this premise is not basic at all, and it’s quite hard to wrap your mind around just how difficult such an existence must be. Continue reading

The Kings of Understatement

It’s Monday morning. My voice hasn’t yet returned to its former glory (probably quite a relief for many!) and my calves ache from jumping up and down like Tigger on crack for nearly two solid hours. I have a major case of the post-awesome-gig blues. Continue reading

Bright lights, big city

A little less than a year ago I wrote a post about how much I love Durban and how very little could convince me to move away from the best city in the world. It’s funny how much can change in the space of a year. Continue reading
